In the late 1930's Franklin D. Roosevelt noticed the economy was in nose-dive. He tried a couple of ways to stabilize the economy. The best way was the introduction of "The New Deal". It was a program to put out of work people, to work. The program was to give jobs to these people in their area of expertise. One certain part of the new deal gave artists money for painting historical murals. One such artist was Henry E. Schnakenburg.
