In March 1788 the town was organized. Whitesboro reached north to the St. Lawrence, south to Pennsylvania, east to the Genesee Road and west to the boundary of the state.

The first school house was a log structure near the court house. Later a brick school house was built on Mosely St.

"It was built with an open aisle through the centre, which was occupied by the teacher - the seats facing the aisle - the windows being several feet from the floor, to cut off objects from without which might distract the studies of the pupils."
