The Syracuse City School District's eighth grade science curriculum includes a unit on Structure and Design. The Building Bridges enterprise is the final evaluation tool for this unit. In preparation for this activity students have explored the integrity of structures and how external forces affect these structures.
Every student had the opportunity to design and build a variety of structures. The use of beams, trusses, arches and domes was explored during this preparatory phase. Students are now integrating what they learned and are focusing on designing and building their own model bridges.
