ORAL TRADITIONS

These web pages will contain folklore stories as told by professionals and students. The storytelling story site will review the oral tradition history and its values to various cultures around the world. The site will also offer examples of how folklore stories can be used in the classroom.

How

The stories will be delivered through the Living SchoolBook network via the Quicktime and Video on Demand technologies. Video on Demand does not limite the size of the picture displaying the students' stories. The Living Schoolbook plans to assist the teacher in taking full advantage of this technology. The size of the picture can be as large or almost as large as the Computer monitor. The Video on Demand can be indexed, easily searched and paused. The still frames are much clearer than a VCR.

The difference is similar to an audio cassete tape vs. a compact disk player. A VCR like a cassette tape it is difficult to locate particular section. Video on demand also has scripting so a teacher can pick any order or amount of video to be shown. Takes full advantage of the content. However, it is limited to close circuit use. Only certain computer can utilize this technology and must be on the closed network.
