1816
Artist: Eunice Pinney (1770-1849)
Category: memorial painting
Medium: watercolor on paper
Collection of the New York State Historical
Association.
Description: This mourning picture features a tomb at its center with a garland of flowers draped over the tomb and a tree to the left. Also to the left of the tomb are three weeping women and a young girl. To the right of the tomb are three mourning men and a young boy who points to the tomb's inscription:
"In memory of Miss Diadama Pinney who died January 22nd AD 1816 aged
19 years.
Although in youth and beauty's bloom, death called her to the silent tomb.
We trust through the redeamer's blood she's found a justifying god."
