This page includes links to resources on the web that can be used for gathering
content for media literacy activities and projects. (For example,
if students and/or teachers were planning a project or researching for an activity, they may
find useful information here or find suggestions for searching elsewhere). Also included here
are links to multimedia fairuse guidelines and copyright issues,
since it is important to remember and follow the rules for using media products when creating your
own projects.

- MTV
Check out MTV's site, which has sections on programs,
music, news, animation, job openings, special features, interviews, archives. There is also a new
section "Now What?" - a guide to jobs, money and the real world. This site includes sections for young a
adults with information about budgeting, banking, taxes, interviewing techniques, job searching,
finding the right place to live, etc.
- Time Warner's Pathfinder
This site features a multitude of information with a chat area, bulletin boards, and search engine.
Some links here include: Life Photos, All Politics Issues, The Weather Channel, People Magazine,
Living, Fortune Business and Investing, sports, news, business, and entertainment.
- CNN Interactive
QuickTime movies, photographs, up-to-date
news, information, sports, entertainment, weather, and more can be found here. Also, stories about
health, sci-tech, travel, style, showbiz, health, and more, plus a search engine to assist in helping
you find what you are looking for.
- The New York Times
It's The NY Times but on the web!
Includes the following sections: Front Page, CyberTimes, Politics, Business, Editorials/Letters,
Op-Ed, Arts & Leisure, Travel, Real Estate, Job Market, Diversions, and Web Specials. You can search
the news by category or through a search engine, join a forum, and check out other services. For
first-time users, there is a place to register and tour the site.
- MSNBC
Similar to other news sites, MSNBC has a search engine
for easy researching. Topics included here are Top news stories, On Air highlights, World, Commerce,
SciTech, Life, Opinion, Weather, Local, and an Index.
- National Public Radio - On-Line
NPR provides you with news on the
hour, which can be heard in Real Audio. Also, News now (news on the hour, this just in..., editor's
choice, NPR in-depth, stories you may have missed), Programs (news magazines, talk shows, cultural &
information, just for kids, other), Inside NPR (user information, corporate headquarters, technical
facilities), Member stations (find a member station, NPR overseas, trivia), Your turn (online discussions),
Search.
- Viacom
Learning about "who" is producing your information
and entertainment can be very enlightening. Find out all the different types of businesses that
Viacom is involved with (e.g. publishing, retail, motion pictures, television, etc.), facts and figures
pertaining to Viacom's operations, news announcements, links to their sites (e.g. Education Management
Group, Blockbuster Video, Sci-Fi Channel, Allyn & Bacon, Comedy Central, etc.), collaborations, products,
job postings, and a search engine too.
- The Media History Project
This project promotes the
"study of media history from petroglyphs to pixels". An enormous resource of various forms of media,
chatboards, archives, journals, listservs, a timeline, organizations and more.
