The lemur is the smallest in its genus, at 3 feet tall, with a 20 inch tail. The lemur reaches its maturity level at 18 months. It usually lives in groups of ten or twelve lemurs. The lemur usually lives to be about 27 years old. The only month the lemur will not mate in is December. It is a very pretty animal, usually white, with black or grey rings around its tail.

At the zoo the lemur is a pretty boring animal. Basically, all it does all day is eat, sleep, and stare at you. It looks like a cross between a monkey and a raccoon. |
The lemur sleeps in a sitting position. It is a nocturnal animal. The lemur is a vegetarian, which means it doesn't eat meat. |
|
The lemur has a long tail that helps it swing from trees and hang upside down. The tail also has stripes to help hide it from other predators. |

The rain forest has the greatest variety of trees on earth. The lemur lives in the trees of the rain forest, but it's being cut down every day. In the last few decades, 600,000 acres were destroyed. The trees were shipped overseas to be used for building houses. Building houses is OK, but it's not right to destroy the lemur's home in the trees. |
