The Blue-Winged Teal duck's scientific name is Anas dicors. This duck is a vertebrate because it has a backbone. It is found in the U.S. and in other places of the world. The blue-winged duck weighs only less than one pound and makes a high whistling peep. It protects itself by biting or just flying away and also by making a scary sound. It can use some really weird objects to make a nest, but it usually uses mud and straw. This duck also has webbed feet so it can swim better. |

We were not able to observe this animal at the Utica Zoo due to its migration.

The duck's habitat is land and also the water. The niche or role the duck plays is that it is a consumer of small plants and other food, like bread, that it is fed by people sometimes. |
|
One adaptation that this duck has made is that it has webbed feet for swimming. It also has feathers so it can migrate to warmer places when it becomes too cold. This happens mostly in the winter. It also has camouflage that allows it to blend with the colors of woods. This is because it swims in rivers and it is very woody in the places where it goes. |

One environmental change that has harmed it is the increase in littering. Its worst enemy is the six pack plastic carrier that gets caught around its neck and chokes it. Another thing that has harmed it is water and land pollution. When oil from boats is dumped into the water, the ducks drink that water causing them to become sick and die. A change that will help this duck is global warming. This will change its migration time. |
