On a site, approximately where the Savings and Loan parking lot is located, was the house of Mrs. Mary E. Brownell, grandmother of "Chuckie" Brownell.

There were about 200 homes burned down, Lots of people lost their homes. Some barns and out buildings were also burned down. Also , many churches were burned. Stores, schools, churches and homes were all burned. Lots of things were destroyed in the Fire of 1884. Many of the churches were rebuilt in 1885. / by Nicole
