Helen Barrett would say that when you require students to submit information for assessment, you trade the learning and self reflection piece for the institutional assessment. We recognize that, but also believe that one can feed the other. As a student recognizes that they are performing well in an area the school believes is important, she can discuss and further reflect on what that means as well as develop a plan for next semester.
